Toy Boy is quickly becoming a cult favorite, both thanks to its addicting murder mystery plotline and the eye candy its four stars offer viewers. The drama series follows group of four male strippers working in the affluent, seaside vacation city of Marbella, Spain. Set in the city of Derry, Northern Ireland, Derry Girls follows Catholic secondary school student Erin Quinn and her small group of oddball, kooky and, frankly, sweary friends as they navigate teenage life during the Troubles of the 1990s. In between the political turbulence of the period, Quinn and her friends juggle love lives, school exams and family life in, let's just say, very creative ways. Creator Lisa McGee, from Derry herself, brings forth the quirks, conversations and traditions of Irish families in this period in a very deliberate way, and it makes for an incredibly authentic and hilarious watch. Only series 1 of this award-winning comedy is currently available on Netflix UK but even if you can't binge it, every episode is such a gem in its own right that it takes minutes to fall head over heels for the Derry girls.
Dear White People expands creator Justin Simien's 2014 indie film into an incisive, insightful series that plumbs complex issues of race and culture with wit and verve. Set at a fictional Ivy League school, the show centers around Samantha White , who launches a combative radio program to enlighten the white folks on campus. Meanwhile, the rich ensemble of characters around her lets the show explore various perspectives and personal and political issues. Smart, satirical, and timely, Dear White People is an ideal binge right now — and it's the perfect time to catch up before the fourth and final season arrives. Plus,Gillian Andersonco-stars as Otis' eccentric divorcée mom, who is an actual sex therapist and has a house full of phallic statues, which is just a lot of fun. Just in case the darkly alluring story of a spoiled rich girl in the middle of a love triangle at an exclusive private school in Spain isn't enough for you, there's also a mysterious unsolved murder—and plenty of clutch-your-pearls sex scenes.
If you do join the more than 20 million households around the world that became instant fans of Netflix's glossy teen drama, your sole regret will be that there are only eight episodes. But thankfully, a second season is coming to Netflix later this year. As Netflix's horny and heartfelt teen dramedy returns for season 3, it's a good time to school yourself on Sex Education. Asa Butterfield stars as Otis, an insecure high schooler whose sexpertise — drawn from his sex-therapist mother Jean — gives him unexpected social capital among his classmates. Soon, he's dispensing advice with a makeshift sex-therapy clinic at school, alongside misunderstood bad girl Maeve .
Come for the raunchy premise, stay for the empathetic story lines and winning cast, including Ncuti Gatwa as Otis' gay best friend who defies "gay best friend" tropes. Stephen Knight created this massive cult hit, a show with fans who adore it so much that they watch it repeatedly. A heartfelt (and now Emmy-winning) riches-to-rags story, this comedy follows the Rose family as they're forced out of their lives of the rich and famous and into a middle-of-nowhere town filled with unusual characters. They try to rebuild their old lives and find themselves building new ones instead.
Schitt's Creek made history in 2020 by sweeping comedy categories at the Emmys, and the final season launched on Netflix last year. If you haven't watched this wonderfully funny show yet, now is the time. The Series describes the different varieties of modern love, sex, and love. Comedy vets Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin headline this superbly bingeable sitcom about two women whose ongoing rivalry comes to a head when their husbands reveal they're in love and want divorces.
While Grace and Frankie try to navigate this life-changing revelation alone, they fast become frenemies who wind up sharing a beach house. Throw in their four kids and their newly-married husbands, and what you're left with is a modern living situation. What starts as an amusing premise over the seasons sprawls into a ripe comedy setup that's all about figuring out life, love, career, health, no matter your age, and how our friends are the one thing we can always rely on.
Adult CG animated anthology Love, Death and Robots just returned for its second, shorter season of episodes. Like all anthologies, the quality varies between episodes, but taken as a larger work, this show has a lot to give. The ideas vary wildly between comedy and drama, with a dark touch at the heart of the series – what happens if a home-cleaning unit starts trying to kill its owner? Sometimes, an episode is as simple as a woman being on the run from a killer after witnessing a horrible murder.
Part drama, part comedy, Atypical follows the experiences of autistic teenager Sam Gardner. As he comes of age he seeks independence by finding love and graduating high school. In the newly-released third series, Sam goes to college to face the challenges of higher education and making new friends. You'll get to know his family as his parents are going through relationship problems after his mother Elsa has an affair, and his sister Casey is struggling with her feelings for her best friend Izzie. Despite the range of emotions Atypical will send you through, there isn't one character you won't love in this heartwarming show.
Netflix's streak of wild 2020 reality dating shows continues with Indian Matchmaking. The series follows matchmaker Sima Taparia as she matches singles all the way from New Jersey to Mumbai. With a magnetic cast of picky characters, family drama, and way too many awkward dates, it's a profoundly entertaining binge watch. The fifth and final season of She-Ra and the Princesses of Power dropped May 15, meaning you can now binge the complete run of Netflix's cosmic fantasy. The animated series, a reboot of the 1980s He-Man spinoff, follows teen soldier Adora , who comes across a sword that transforms her into the titular princess, She-Ra and turns her life upside down.
(Magical swords have a way of doing that.) Adora must turn against her best friend Catra , assemble a group of warriors known as the Princess Alliance, and work to prevent the sinister Horde from conquering the planet Etheria. Sophia Lillis shines as Sydney Novak, a 17-year-old dealing with the drama of life in high school when she discovers that she actually has telekinetic powers. Part Breakfast Club and part Carrie, this is a clever, dark coming-of-age story that speeds by in a span of only seven short episodes. You can watch it all in one season and then you'll instantly start searching the web to find out when it's coming back for season two. The first Netflix series on this list is also one of the best, a brilliant spoof of true crime documentaries that also serves as a clever commentary on teen life in the digital age. The first season — about a vandal who sprays male appendages on all the cars in the faculty parking lot — is arguably funnier than the feces-focused second year, but they both have value.
Netflix has axed the show, but there are rumors someone else may be interested in picking it up. One of Netflix's longest running original series , Grace and Frankie follows the two titular women, played by Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin, as they embark on new lives when their husbands come out as gay and couple up together. There's an Odd Couple vibe as Grace is a no-nonsense cosmetics mogul and Frankie is a hippie artist, which only cements their friendship beyond the sitcom-setup bond. Netflix released the first four episodes of the final season, with the remaining 12 coming in 2022. The animated series picks up with BoJack 20 years after his peak as he sinks deeper into middle age and an endless cycle of substance abuse. In an LA half-populated by human-animal hybrids, BoJack comes to terms with his existential dread in this bleak and darkly funny comedy.
The first half of season one is a little heavy on the bleakness and light on laughs, but once it hits its stride this surreal comedy comes into its own with stellar voice performances from Amy Sedaris, Will Arnett and Aaron Paul. The second season of this raunchy teen show was one of the biggest highlights on Netflix in 2020. Although it has a distinctly American glow, with jocks, Acapella groups and mean girls, Sex Education is set in the UK and filmed in Wales. Asa Butterfield stars as an awkward teenager who starts giving sex counselling for money, and Gillian Anderson plays his mother in her typical graceful style. While the titular topic is used as a source of comedy, Sex Education also explores issues related to intimacy and identity issues in a smart way that will dredge up your emotions.
A strange specimen of a sitcom, this Dan Harmon show set in a community college is the most meta TV comedy since Moonlighting. The Shelbys have come a long way since they debuted in the BBC series back in 2013. At the end of April the fifth series dropped onto Netflix for the first time.
Season five sees Tommy Shelby's gang have considerable power and reach within the UK establishment. The power of their enemies has also grown and there's a very real risk the family's days are numbered. Last Chance U is one the most successful documentary series on Netflix and Part 5 is the best season yet. It's a genuine part of the community and the players come from that community.
The result is a series that shines a light on the growing dislocation and inequality in inner city America as the overflow from neighbouring San Francisco gentrifies the formerly blue collar Oakland. And, unlike previous seasons, Laney's head coach isn't an unbearable ass. Creator Joe Swanberg assembled this anthology series following various Chicagoans as they figure out love, sex, and the chaos of modern life. It's hit or miss, but there's enough talent in the cast to keep it compelling. Don't skip the threesome episode with Orlando Bloom, Malin Akerman, and Kate Micucci. Writing television requires writing to the rhythm of the episode, not just the season.
Whole episodes are sometimes flat, because they're in the flatter part of a season's arc. Ideally, in a show like this, each episode should be both satisfying and tantalizing — you should exhale and say, "That was fun," and you should also want the next one. The dearly departed Schitt's Creek's final season arrives on Netflix at last on Oct. 7, fresh off of a record-breaking Emmy sweep that included acting wins for all four of its leads. Those awards prove the Canadian import's bona fides as a perfect remedy for the quarantine blues.
When the wealthy Rose family find themselves bereft of their fortune, they're forced to relocate to a motel in Schitt's Creek, a small town they once bought as a joke. The fish-out-of-water comedy quickly grows into a warm-hearted ensemble sitcom, with creator-star Dan Levy's David leading the way. If you only watch one more gritty, morally murky crime drama, it should probably be Ozark.
The Netflix series stars Jason Bateman as Marty Byrde, a Chicago financial planner who relocates his family to Missouri after a money-laundering scheme goes wrong. There, he embarks on an even bigger operation, laundering millions for a Mexican drug lord with the help of fierce local criminal Ruth and his savvy wife, Wendy . Darkly comedic and twistily thrilling, Ozark is the perfect binge — and a showcase for the erstwhile Michael Bluth both in front of and behind the camera. Netflix's recently-concluded original series BoJack Horseman is one of the funniestand most heartbreaking shows on TV, often in the same episode. The series follows the titular character, a washed-up former sitcom star who is also a horse, in a world where humans and anthropomorphic animals exist side-by-side. After Life mixes sweet and bitter flavors in a way that feels perfectly suited to our time, as creator-star Ricky Gervais leavens his signature comic brutality with a moving story of grief and growth.
Gervais plays Tony, a newspaperman who has become a miserably pessimistic, insult-hurling misanthrope after losing his wife Lisa to cancer. Think of this popular 2013 drama as a Korean version of The O.C. Cha Eun-sang (Park Shin-hye) takes on part-time jobs to support herself and lives in the home of the wealthy Kim family, where her mother is a housekeeper. Netflix has relaunched the network TV classic that once starred Robert Stack and one hopes it never ends.
The approach is different with one case per episode instead of multiple and no narrator, but the result is similar in that these are stories of crime or the inexplicable that viewers could ultimately end up solving. On a streaming service filled with true crime original series, this is one of the best. Incredibly progressive and representative, Sense8 is the story of eight people who are suddenly mentally and emotionally linked. It ran for two seasons before Netflix canceled it, but they allowed a movie in 2018 to close out the series.
Speaking of cultural veracity, TV doesn't get much more inclusive than Norman Lear's brilliant reworking of one of his biggest hits from the '70s. It's a true shame that Netflix canceled it after three seasons, although there are allegedly discussions to pick it up elsewhere. Robert Taylor is wonderful as the title character, an irascible Wyoming sheriff, and he's ably supported by Katee Sackhoff and Lou Diamond Phillips. Bill Burr is one of the funniest modern stand-ups — watch all of the specials of his you can find — and his viewpoint is deftly captured in this animated comedy that's been on for three seasons and counting. Set in the early '70s, this relatively standard family sitcom in animated form is led by Burr, but he's ably assisted by a great voice cast that includes Laura Dern, Justin Long, and Sam Rockwell. Based on the podcast of the same name, the true crime series premiered on Bravo but has developed a much larger fan base on Netflix.
Each of its two seasons tells a different story of awful people, the first focusing on the case of John Meehan and the second on that of Betty Broderick . There was once a time when a group of high school kids from Capeside dominated pop culture. Kevin Williamson created an ensemble teen drama that didn't talk down to its audience and turned James Van Der Beek, Katie Holmes, Joshua Jackson, and Michelle Williams into stars. Christina Hendricks,Mae Whitman, andRettastar as three working-class suburban moms exhausted by the never-ending struggle to make ends meet who decide to take control of their lives by robbing a local grocery store. It's the aftermath of the crime thatGood Girlsis interested in, and the different ways the women react to it, such as Beth's realization that life as a criminal is preferable to life as a mother struggling to pay the bills. (Her relationship with Manny Montana's gang leader Rio will scratch that will they-won't they itch for you, too.)Good Girlsis the kind of show that gets more fun to watch as the characters get in more trouble, so buckle up.
Marty Bryde moves his family to the Ozarks in Missouri, where he has to launder $500 million for a drug lord who threatens his family, including his wife, Wendy . This dark, adult series is a dramatic breakthrough role for comedy veteran Bateman, who also directs episodes in each season. You've got to be in the right mood for it, but if you enjoy shows like Fargo, you'll find this a compelling watch.
If you're new to the show, keep watching until season 1's action extravaganza 'Modern Warfare', which firmly establishes Community's identity for later years. Some seasons are fantastic , some are just quite good and one is worth avoiding entirely . While it's been a huge hit with a Spanish-speaking audience for the longest time, Money Heist has now found a big audience in the English-speaking world, too. A new set of episodes just dropped on Netflix, meaning you've got 31 episodes to watch if you've never seen it before, divided over two separate overarching stories about the same set of characters. This mystery drama about a passenger plane that lands years after it took off has proved such a hit on Netflix US that it's reportedly saving the show from cancelation – giving it a fourth and final season of 20 episodes.
The puzzle box nature of the show means it's a good fit for streaming, and unlike Netflix's own originals, this one clocks in at a lean and snackable 40 minutes per episode. This dense ensemble drama might sound a little Lost-y, but it goes in some pretty different directions by comparison. Get ready for more chaotic weirdness to ensue in season 2, coming to Netflix October 7.
In a traditional dating scene, most people would want to look their best when meeting their date for the first time. Netflix reality dating show Love is Blind challenged the notion of love at first sight by never letting the contestants see each other at all before getting engaged. This wacky new dating show decided to take that one step further by transforming all the daters into animals and other creatures through the use of advanced prosthetics. After the featured dater makes his or her selection, the costumes are finally removed, which is when they get to see if the person's real looks align with their taste in personality. This alluring series out of Mexico is often described as You meets 365 Days, and for good reason.

But quickly, we learn Darío's passion for Alma is more like an obsession—and the sexy story quickly turns into a thriller with more plot twists and irresistible sex scenes than you'll be able to count. Otis Milnurn mother Jean Milburn is divorced and has a one-night stand regularly and she is not seeking a romantic relationship. There's proof enough in the first very first episode of Dogs, a tale of a service animal trained to detect seizures in a young girl, giving her back the freedom to be alone. While the episode about groomers in Japan has its fair share of adorable, Dogs is much more than a series of cute Instagram-worthy clips. By the time the final episode about adoption rolls around, you'll want one of your own – but not feel quite worthy. When Marie Adler reports that she has been raped, she finds herself thrown into a deeply flawed system that will go on to tear her already traumatic life apart at the seams.
